Job Duties and Responsibilities: Test and design for TM Products and External Contract Customers under minimal supervision. Will coordinate with customers and other engineers to ensure project deadlines and budgets are met. Design components, hardware, and test fixtures to meet customer requirements. Work technicians and students who will fabricate and test components and systems. Generate design documentation (schematics, CAD Models, test documentation, fabrication travelers, and test reports) for components and systems. Actively participate in design reviews for TM Products with internal engineering staff and systems for external customers.

To fulfill PSL contractual obligations in a timely cost effective manner through the design and implementation of electronic systems. Under general supervision, performs an assortment of research and development engineering duties such as developing, designing, and evaluating new approaches to meet project objectives, planning of manufacturing and fabrication, and the installation, operation, and maintenance of complex apparatus. Performs complex activities in the use of devices for commercial, domestic, and industrial use. Works directly with engineers in other disciplines to augment production size and value and meet customer and contract specifications and requirements.

May carry out feasibility studies for new technical innovations. Draws up plans and specifications for projects, using computer-assisted engineering and design software. Estimates material, construction, and labor costs, and project timelines. May coordinate technicians and craftspeople. Tests installations and systems, and analyzing data making sure projects meet applicable system requirements. Oversees inspection and maintenance programs. Attends meetings, writing reports and giving presentations to managers and clients.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering by date of hire

Special Certification/Licensure: 
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Ability to obtain a DoD clearance and maintain clearance throughout employment.
This position is subject to random drug testing in compliance with its drug-free workforce requirements. Must be able to provide documentation of US citizenship to be eligible for employment with the Physical Science Laboratory”

 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed indoors.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
