Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Plan, recommend, implement, and evaluate policies, budget, operating procedures, staffing, and services offered by the campus library.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation, reference, technical services, access services, and related administrative functions.
• Work closely with the Business Manager (or equivalent) on all budget processes, including preparation, monitoring, purchases, subscriptions, and travel.
• Provide direct assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in the effective use of library resources and services.
• Serve as the primary library liaison to faculty and staff, collaborating on curricular materials, collection development, and instructional support.
• Plan, schedule, supervise, train, and evaluate full-time staff and student employees; monitor and approve work hours through institutional systems.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct workshops, orientations, and training sessions on library services, research tools, and information literacy.
• Administer and troubleshoot library systems and applications used for cataloging, circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, serials management, scheduling, and materials processing.
• Implement and monitor service quality and productivity standards; assess and improve library services based on data and user feedback.
• Participate in institutional and system-level planning and policy discussions related to library and academic support services.
• Maintain current professional knowledge and skills through continuing education, professional development, and engagement in library organizations.
• Participate in and support library and campus committees, including interlibrary cooperation within the NMSU system and statewide consortia such as NMCAL.
• Ensure adherence to institutional policies and procedures, including hiring processes, fiscal controls, and risk management.
• Perform other related duties as assigned that support the mission of the library and the institution.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate's Degree + 6 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 4 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Master's degree in Library Science or related field.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
