Job Duties and Responsibilities: *** THIS IS A INITIALLY A ONE YEAR APPOINTMENT WHICH MAY BE EXTENDED; CONTINGENT UPON EXTERNAL FUNDING***
The Research Scientist will contribute to and lead novel research on the performance of ranching practices in the U.S. Southern Plains and Southwest, with a focus on environmental, economic, production, and social domains. The Research Scientist will integrate and apply producer knowledge into benchmarking of desired outcomes, develop data systems for performance indicators, and advance mapping of ecological sites and states.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree + 7 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 5 years of relevant experience.
Equivalent Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in Range Management or related field.
Experience with environmental monitoring and quality assurance and quality control.
Experience in collaborative research with farmers and ranchers.
Experience with geospatial mapping and presentation to producers.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with Ecological Site Descriptions and State and Transition Models.
Knowledge of Soil Science.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.
Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
