Job Summary/Basic Functions

The University of Mary Washington has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Police Officer with University Police. Primary responsibilities of police officers include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs law enforcement, crime prevention, security and related public safety functions within state controlled property.
  • To protect life, property and enforce the rules and regulations of University of Mary Washington as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in such a manner which supports the mission of the University.
  • Provide a safe environment which is conducive to the education of, and promotes harmony for, all members of the University community.

 

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience in the principles and techniques of law enforcement, security, crime detection and prevention, as well as criminal investigation.
  • Proficiency with and experience in the use of police equipment relevant to the job; to include the use of carried weapons.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing, with diverse groups of employees, students and members of the general public.
  • Ability to interpret laws, polices, and regulations governing the operation of the institution.
  • Ability to interpret laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.

 

Required Experience:

  • Experience in Law Enforcement or a related field.

 

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a high school or equivalency.

 

Required Licensure:

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License to operate a University/state owned or leased vehicle.
  • Mandatory certification by the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Law Enforcement Officer.
