Department Summary

The College of Music operates within a dynamic, high-volume environment that blends performance, recording, and academic instruction. This position plays a critical role in enabling that ecosystem—ensuring that technology not only functions reliably but also evolves to support new creative and pedagogical possibilities. This position serves as a strategic partner in advancing innovative music technology initiatives and ensuring reliable, secure, and forward-looking infrastructure for faculty, staff, and students. The manager acts as a liaison between the College of Music and university IT, aligning specialized needs with institutional standards while supporting mission-critical systems.

Position Overview

The Cross-Functional IT Support Manager leads the planning, implementation, and support of computing and instructional technology systems within the College of Music. This role oversees system administration, server infrastructure, security, and technology procurement while supporting a large-scale, performance-driven environment that includes faculty computing, AV, recording, live streaming, and digital media production.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and five years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Music Technology, Audio Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant professional experience in system administration, IT infrastructure, or technology support.
Experience supporting macOS and/or Windows environments in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a music, media, or arts environment.
Familiarity with digital audio workstations (Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton) and music production workflows.
Working knowledge of audio systems, recording environments, or AV infrastructure.
Experience supporting high-performance or mission-critical environments (e.g., live production, recording, or streaming).
Exposure to emerging technologies such as immersive or multi-channel audio systems (e.g., Dolby Atmos).
Experience with enterprise endpoint management tools (e.g., JAMF) and scripting

Required License/Registration/Certifications

 

Job Duties

System & Endpoint Management
Administer and secure macOS/Windows environments using enterprise tools (JAMF). Handle scripting, patching, user access, and the maintenance of workstations and servers.

Music Technology & Audio Infrastructure
Support specialized DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic) and audio hardware. Manage signal flow, AV infrastructure, and immersive audio systems for recording, studios, and live performances.

Infrastructure & Network Strategy
Manage mission-critical servers and network security. Partner with central IT to plan scalable infrastructure, ensure data integrity, and manage disaster recovery protocols.

Operations & Procurement
Lead technology lifecycles, from researching and procuring hardware to managing vendor relationships. Maintain system documentation and enforce security policies.

Strategic Leadership & Liaison
Act as the primary link between the College of Music and University IT. Advise leadership on tech trends, supervise student staff, and advocate for the unique workflows of music production.
