The Communications Officer/Police Dispatcher/Dispatcher Trainee provides assistance to sworn employees and the public by receiving and dispatching routine and emergency requests for police, fire, and EMS.
Essential duties:
- Operating phone systems to process emergency and non-emergency calls
- Prioritizing calls
- Contacting local Fire and EMS for response to emergencies
- Processing alarms
- Dispatching officers to calls for service utilizing a radio system and computer-aided-dispatch
- Operating a multi-screen, multi-computer console to receive and process phone calls, alarms, access control to buildings, building alarms, and surveillance cameras
- Identifying, troubleshooting, and reporting equipment malfunctions
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma and or equivalent
- Must be a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States
- Must possess valid driver’s license and have good driving record
- Ability to obtain VCIN certification
- Ability to interact with the public and co-workers in a positive and professional manner
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Possess strong manual dexterity
- Ability to speak clearly, hear, analyze, and react quickly to high stress situations
- Ability to interact with management, staff, and the public in a positive manner
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
- Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, and the Internet
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as an effective member of a team
- Submit to pre-employment drug screening, background check and fingerprinting
- Successful completion of the Dispatch academy

Preferred Qualifications:
- Virginia DCJS Certified Dispatcher, or ability to obtain
- CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain
- VCIN certified or ability to obtain
Selection Process:
The Regent Police Dispatcher selection process is a multi-tiered process. The selection process may include the following components:
- Dispatcher Sit Along/Communications Center familiarity
- Written Test
- Background Investigation
- Panel Interview *Health Physical
- Psychological Assessment
Special Requirements:
Employees must be able to work (days/evenings/midnights) including weekends and holidays and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.
