Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Athletics Supervisor, the Recreation Attendant will perform duties pertaining to the operations of the Athletics Division by monitoring the athletic facility area and arranging and running all recreational activities. The Recreation Attendant is responsible for ensuring safety through supervision, preparing activities and games, and maintaining the cleanliness of facilities.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

• Provides exceptional customer service to participants, coaches and parents.
• Sets up and monitors all games, activities, and equipment for patrons of the park and gym facilities.
• Effective communication with our citizens about athletic activities and events.
• Registers or assists our citizens with registration for programs, leagues and events and assists in maintaining registration system.
• Assists in scheduling programs, generating reports, updating league information.
• Assists in resolving participant complaints by recording complaints and referring to the appropriate source, settling disputes if any.
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances, such as weather conditions or unexpected situations during activities.
• Knowledge of various sports, play and rules is necessary.
• Understand safety protocols and ensure the well-being of participants. This includes knowledge of first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, and risk management.
• Collaborates with department staff, volunteers and external partners to successfully execute programs and events.
• Cleans recreation facilities and performs basic outside maintenance.
• Performs related tasks as necessary.

Minimum Education & Experience

High school graduate or GED, plus one (1) year of experience.

Special Certifications & Licenses

Certifications: American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED (will be required within 90 days of hire paid for by the City).
Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Independence & Judgement

Average judgement: must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination. May involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.

Initiative & Ingenuity

Low chance of error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: not demanded to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.

Light physical effort. May require brief periods of muscular exertion, such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 20lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office, use of a City vehicle.

Working Conditions

Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to outdoor elements is brief.
