Job Summary

This position will assist the Communications & Marketing Department (CMD) in a fast-paced environment, while juggling multiple projects and priorities. It’s imperative that the candidate is meticulously organized, adaptable, and relentlessly passionate about producing work that people will love. The Senior Multimedia Editor requires the ability to coordinate and participate in a variety of complex, technical tasks related to the operation of video and editing equipment. It also requires the ability to edit post-production videos, film, and television productions.
This position is responsible for putting together the product as a sequence, which consists of related shots from raw camera footage, while working directly under the supervision of the Brownsville Television Production Manager and Department Director to meet strict deadlines and requirements. The incumbent must also possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of administrators and staff, as well as external stakeholders.
This role is a collaborative champion, working closely and productively with disciplines and key stakeholders in the pursuit of innovative solutions.

● Proficiency in television production, filming and video editing, multimedia, communications and photography
● Strong understanding of video production and livestreams, computers and digital equipment, and knowledge of new and cutting-edge technology.

● Ability to take and follow direction, while also having a creative eye for improvements and a keen sense for photographic aesthetics

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

● Create and develop multimedia (audio/video) content for the City of Brownsville along with photography content as needed.
● Manipulate and edit film pieces in a way that is invisible to the audience.
● Take direction and grasp production team’s needs and specifications.
● Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes’ value and contribution to continuity.
● Edit video segments in logical and smooth sequence.
● Incorporate production elements into edits. Ex: music, dialogues, graphics and effects.
● Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process.
● Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency.
● Proficiency in the current line of Blackmagic Design hardware including ATEM video mixers and Studio Cameras.
● High level proficiency in at least one of the major video editing programs: Adobe Premiere Pro, Blackmagic Davinci Resolve, or Apple Final Cut Pro; and a working knowledge of the other two and/or willingness to learn if needed, as well as competence in Adobe Creative Suite for both video and photo editing purposes.
● Extensive knowledge of basic video production equipment: cameras, lighting, microphones, and technical support.

Minimum Education & Experience

Requires a Bachelors degree in journalism, Radio/Television, Film.
Requires a minimum of two years of television/production experience in the field.

Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, when to change or sharpen blade on mower, whether there is a problem/malfunction with a piece of equipment that needs attention, etc.; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.

Direct contact may be infrequent but may require considerable tact and courtesy when it does occur.

Physical Demands

Office job with little or occasional light physical. Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally or a negligible amount of energy frequently to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office; Use of city vehicle.
