The Risk Manager and Prevention Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Student Conduct. This position will advance the University’s commitment to student learning, community responsibility, and proactive risk reduction through the development and delivery of educational programs, outreach initiatives, and prevention strategies. This position will serve as the primary coordinator for educational programming that promotes responsible decision-making, restorative practices, community standards, and developmental sanctions.

Working collaboratively with the campus community, this position designs and implements evidence-informed prevention initiatives that strengthen campus culture, reduce high-risk behaviors, and support student success.

What you will do:

  • Outreach, Education & Prevention Programming: Design and facilitate educational workshops and presentations; coordinate hazing prevention initiatives in conjunction with campus partners; develop community standards education; facilitate educational sanction workshops; coordinate new student education or campaigns addressing emerging student issues; create educational resources for campus community.  
  • Campus Partnerships & Organizational Development: Coordinate collaboration efforts with campus partners; assist student organizations in developing healthy organizational cultures; provide organizational consultations for policy interpretation.   
  • Case Management & Resolution: Serve as the primary case manager for an assigned caseload of individual and organizational misconduct cases; determine appropriate resolution pathways; facilitate educational conferences with individual and/or registered student organizations; draft communication through all steps of case lifecycle; assigned educational sanctions and appropriately document case files.
  • Investigations: Work closely with students, faculty/staff, and internal/external stakeholders in the resolution of Code violations; develops prompt and equitable investigation plans, identifies, and interviews parties/witnesses, maintains accurate records, prepares reports and catalogs necessary data in Maxient. 
  • Assessment, Marketing & Program Evaluation: Assess educational programs, workshops, and learning outcomes; develop marketing materials and educational campaigns; manage outreach calendars and promotional efforts; maintain prevention resources and educational content; assist with annual departmental assessment initiatives.  
  • Performs various related duties to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 12 months experience in community outreach activities or health education.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months experience.

Department Preferences:

  • 12 months of experience with Student Affairs, Student Conduct, Restorative Practices, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and/or Human Relations.
  • Master’s Degree in higher education administration or its equivalence (Human Relations, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, Conflict Resolution, etc.)
  • Familiarity with electronic student conduct information management systems; Maxient preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs, Student Conduct, Student Life, and Residence Life.

  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, parents, media and community partners. 
  • Organizational & Time Management: Skilled in managing multiple priorities, workflows, and deadlines effectively.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with student conduct, conflict resolution, restorative justice, and fraternity/sorority systems. 
  • Policy & Compliance: Skilled in interpreting policies and regulations; ensures adherence to state and federal guidelines. 
  • Collaboration & Partnerships: Ability to build cross-campus relationships and work effectively with interdepartmental teams; demonstrated administrative and political acumen.
