Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).
We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications and many others.
SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035.
Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.
About the opportunity:
Implement, support and monitor Safety and Health Management requirements, strategies and initiatives across Suburban Connect. Work with the project team to provide guidance, clarity and support to lead the safety culture
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Develop and oversee education and compliance programs for employees, clients, contractors and visitors in your area
- Overseeing environmental performance and adherence to legal environmental standards.
- With support from the Project H&S Lead Initiate and administer safety improvement, education and compliance programs for the project
- Managing and leading a team of safety professionals or environmental specialists
- Conduct workplace investigations in accordance with policies and procedures
- Drive continuous improvement in safety culture by assessing the effectiveness & efficiency of operations, initiating performance improvements and sharing best practices / lessons learned
- Develop and guide the project’s safety and health professionals to ensure day to day specialist project support
- Assist the H&S Lead to ensure the project understands and have the tools to meet their regulatory and legal safety obligations
- Assist, lead and conduct and interpret audits and reviews
- Maintain an update-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and company safety requirements, ensuring workplace are informed of relevant changes
Experience, Skills and Behavioural Competencies:
- Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
- Safety Lead Auditor Qualification
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Safety and Health experience (5 + years) in Construction and/or heavy industry and high-risk workplaces.
- Management and leadership (5 years)
- Knowledge in Safety and Health Management System
