Overview
You will be responsible for managing the care of patients allocated to you in the Emergency Department at the Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. With full senior support, you will provide patient care in collaboration with medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals. This will include providing code blue support after hours for the inpatient medical unit and participating in a 24-hour 7-day roster to staff the Emergency Department. You will initiate the discharge process at the earliest opportunity, including the ordering of drugs and equipment, arranging post-discharge management and follow-up in consultation with the patient’s normal carers and General Practitioner, and the writing of an accurate discharge letter or summary. You will also provide an effective and accurate clinical handover of patient care at the change of shifts. As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to be involved in continuing education activities and continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Holding a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, you will be fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This will be supported by some Emergency Department experience in a clinical capacity, along with some paediatric patient management experience. Demonstrating competency in range of routine and common emergency procedural skills, you will bring the ability to work under pressure without compromising patient care. You will work well within a multidisciplinary team setting and be skilled in problem solving and decision making at both the clinical and the individual level.
