Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Monday - Thursday 8:00am to 10:00pm; Friday 8:00am-6:00pm; Saturday 10:00am to 6:00pm; Sunday 11:00am to 10:00pm
Note to Applicants: Schedules are created based on availability and department need. Applicants will be required to work some evening/night hours up until 10:00pm, and/or weekend hours. Students will be able to work up to 20-35 hours per week for the Summer depending on if they are taking classes.
Students are hired on a semester-to-semester basis depending on job performance.
Job Summary: Access Services Student Assistants work with Circulation staff to support Library operations. Student Assistants may also be assigned to work in all of UA Libraries as needed.
Additional Department Summary: Student Circulation Assistants assist patrons in finding library materials. Checks materials in/out including media equipment. Processes returned materials. Shelves, shifts, and maintains the order of library materials. Performs hourly walkthroughs of the building. Provides excellent customer service to patrons in person and on the phone at Library service desks. Assists with departmental projects and other tasks as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Ability to work designated shifts as assigned by supervisor; this may include some night hours up until 10pm, and/or weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications: Customer service experience and/or experience working in a library. Additional computer skills. Familiar with the University Libraries. Willingness to work at the libraries past the summer. All majors accepted.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent customer service skills. Proficient in the use of personal computers and MS Office software. Ability to operate and troubleshoot office equipment. Excellent communication skills. Good time management skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other student workers and staff to complete work tasks. Strong desire to learn new skills and attention to detail in completing tasks. Ability to stand for several hours, lift books, and push/pull book carts.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
