Pepperdine University’s College of Health Science (CHS) invites applications for a full-time Instructional Designer position. The Instructional Designer will work with CHS leadership and faculty to advance the CHS’s strategic vision for technology and learning. An integral member of the CHS’s teaching and learning community, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and staff to develop courses and related instructional materials. The Instructional Designer will also provide technology training and technology-enhanced support for CHS programs and activities. The candidate will work as part of an University instructional design team and have dual reporting responsibilities to the Senior Associate Provost and the Dean of the CHS (or their designees).

Duties

  • Collaborate with faculty to design, build and maintain in-person, hybrid, and online courses in the LMS. Align course objectives, assignments and rubrics with adopted program, course, and student learning outcomes and contribute to the assessment process. Provide research-based instructional design consultation to faculty from ideation to implementation, focusing on innovative learning experiences to increase learning engagement.
  • Provide consultation to faculty in the areas of acquisition and production of course materials, such as creating/editing relevant videos and media pieces and curating library resources, etc. Review courses for accessibility. Effectively manage multiple projects and courses by prioritizing tasks based on high-demand and need. Explore new technologies, develop documentation, conduct orientation and training events, create media and learning objects, and analyze data from learning tools to generate reports on usage and effectiveness. Conduct periodic training sessions for faculty and staff professional development.
  • Collaborate with CHS Dean's Office, schools, programs, and departments to support virtual/hybrid events. Focuses on contributing to planning, preparation, and delivery of the technological components of the event.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new learning technology products. Review periodicals, journals, and other sources of information to keep abreast of new developments in technologies to meet evolving teaching and learning demands. Attend training as needed to maintain a high level of technical competence. Provide timely and complete project status reports to the supervisor as requested.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in instructional design, instructional technology, learning experience design, educational technology, or a similarly related field. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and models. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the development and delivery of online courses, including knowledge of effective multimedia integration in web-based courses, web-based and multimedia tools and their use in online instructional materials, interface design principles to facilitate instructional effectiveness, and formative evaluation techniques and analyses. Advanced skills in designing online curricula, including writing instructional design specifications and applying strategies to convert existing face-to-face instructional activities to online delivery. Experience with video recording and editing, and the use of digital media and web technologies for educational purposes. Record of instructional design work demonstrating knowledge of the four primary instructional designer roles: design, manage, support, and train. One year of relevant work (or the equivalent) in the field of Instructional or Learning Design and Technology Support. A strong commitment to diversity and belonging with a proven ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds. The ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team. Outstanding oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficiency with Commonly used e-learning authoring tools: Canvas, Sakai/Courses, and similar LMS systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, Google Docs suite, Adobe Creative suite, and Pepperdine University technology tools, including Zoom, Panopto, TurnItIn.

Preferred: A master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in instructional design, instructional technology, learning experience design, educational technology, or a similarly related field. Three or more years experience working as an instructional designer in a higher education environment consulting with faculty on the design and implementation of online course materials. Previous experience working as a Project Manager from conception to completion. Experience working in a higher education environment, especially in support of academic healthcare/health science programs.
Record of innovation and creativity in identifying and integrating technological solutions to pedagogical needs.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position that may be eligible for remote or hybrid work in accordance with the University Policy Manual.

Expected Pay Range: $66,560 - $70,000 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
