The Health and Wellbeing Coordinator (HWC) serves as the University leader and facilitator of campus Health and Well-being programs and initiatives. This role works closely with campus partners encompassing the functional areas of student well-being, including but not limited to the Student Health Center (SHC), the Counseling Center (CC), and Title IX. The HWC plans, delivers, and evaluates a comprehensive well-being program for Pepperdine students, emphasizing enriching the student experience by connecting them with services that aim to improve evidence-based behaviors that directly contribute to their overall well-being. The HWC additionally serves as the organizational leader for the Student Wellness Advisory Board (SWAB) to ensure the SWAB mission and vision are consistent with health and well-being program goals and expectations from the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Title IX office.

Duties

  • Administrative:
    • Plans and evaluates a comprehensive well-being program.
    • Maintains the program budget and event/education record-keeping.
    • Writes reports, develops surveys to be distributed to the student community, and responds to routine correspondences promptly.
    • Compiles outreach results for the SHC, CC, and Title IX reporting, including annual reports.
    • Develops and assesses results of health and well-being education and outreach and Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) for the SHC, CC, and Title IX.
    • Oversees the SWAB annual report writing process for each branch.
    • Oversees the Health and Well-being dashboard for Student Affairs.
    • Maintains compliance with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) health promotion standards.
    • Assists in developing and implementing periodic student well-being surveys that:
      • Provides baseline and follow-up wellness data.
      • Identifies program needs and priorities.
      • Collects information on program and service effectiveness.
      • Tracks trends in student well-being status and behavior.
    • Assures messages and programming are consistent with ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education, CAS Standards, and other proven public health and higher education principles.
    • Establishes and sustains relationships with department staff, learning about its/their function and services.
    • Collaborates with department staff to develop, measure, and report on annual objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Outreach:
    • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence-informed well-being practices, programs, and services.
    • Serves as the primary contact for orienting new students to the Thrive Wellness Program.
    • Oversees and manages the Healthy Campus 2030 (HC2030) initiative. 
    • Recruits HC2030 participants across the University and coordinate HC2030 meetings.
    • Oversees the SWAB and related events.
    • Partners with other well-being areas on programming and education initiatives, including, but not limited to Campus Recreation, Resilience Informed Skills Education (RISE), Residence Life, Office of Student Accessibility (OSA), Athletics, and Academics.
    • In partnership with campus and community partners and informed by the National College Health Association data, departmental in-house survey results, and health concerns common in the college population, create, coordinate, and organize campus outreach programs, activities, and campaigns like wellness fairs.
    • Develops, leads, coordinates, facilitates, and assesses educational workshops and presentations for students on a variety of topics, including physical health, mental health, self-care, and services available to students via the Thrive Wellness Program, including but not limited to SHC care, TimelyCare, CC care, and Title IX support. Partners with department staff to execute outreach events, regardless of SWAB's participation.
    • Applies evidence-based methods and theories to the development of well-being programs.
    • In collaboration with SHC and CC staff, leads the SWAB, including recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student-employees, as well as empowering students to develop outreach programs/events and present on various wellbeing topics.
    • Coordinates nutrition-focused outreach with Dietician.
  • Other Duties:
    • Attends a variety of professional meetings as a representative of the SHC and CC.
    • Attends SHC and CC department meetings to provide updates and news about outreach efforts.
    • Serves as a member of campus committees as designated.
    • Participates in SHC Quality Improvement Committee representing health education and outreach.
    • Is familiar with and abides by the specific safety procedures, including serving as a member of the SHC Emergency Response Team, and if safe to do so, assist even overnight.
    • Participates in Program Reviews as determined by the clinic director.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed. As a staff member in Student Affairs who works closely with students, this person serves as a Christian role model and promotes a theological worldview.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: A Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Public Health, Health/Wellness Promotion, or a related field. 2 to 5 years of full-time experience in health promotion or a related field. Experience managing and motivating staff, faculty, and students and a personal demeanor that inspires excellence and collaboration. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with diverse constituencies, knowledge of principles of student development, and a strong student-centered philosophy. Working knowledge of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system and its functionality. Exercise cultural competency and respectful consideration in a student population representing diverse cultures. Maintain professionalism, good judgment sense, and confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Effective public speaking skills. Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced setting with multiple demands that often occur at the same time. Understands and follows guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policy for patient confidentiality. Perform all of the above with a sense of compassion toward students and coworkers in concurrence with the University, Student Affairs, and Student Health Center missions. Proficiency in Google Office Suite.

Preferred: Experience in higher education, academic faculty collaboration, assessment, and campus programming.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $28.84 - $31.72 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
