The Technology Trainer works closely with the Lead Technology trainer in IT Training to assess the technology training needs of constituents using University-wide technology and to create, lead, and promote a culture of continual learning and digital literacy at Pepperdine University.
Duties
- TRAINING AND SUPPORT: With a strong focus on content creation, curation, and maintenance, this position creates and edits multimedia content for documentation, videos, graphics, presentations, and other learning content for online, print, in-person training, and other deliverables/platforms. Plans the appropriate training schedules, works with others to schedule the training rooms, ensures the training rooms are adequate, judges the effectiveness of current training content and methods, and identifies new training methods using the latest technology. Co-creates, delivers, and supports live and recorded training events, such as workshops, custom group training classes, and one-to-one training consultations.
- COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS: Represents Pepperdine and IT in a professional manner when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Develops and maintains strong partnerships with campus personnel and departments to assure current and future operation success. Creates a functional awareness about training through visual design, special communication efforts, video, and informational workshops. Partners with IT Communications to promote and raise awareness of training opportunities, events, and content.
- RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS: Collaborates with IT and other colleagues on appropriate training for new IT product or service launches or changes. Visits with IT and departmental support colleagues to learn about common community issues and identify opportunities for education initiatives. Visits with end users to learn their business practices. Develops classes, documentation, learning aids, and professional development programs based primarily on customer needs. Conducts outreach to the University community to determine needs and build relationships. Researches emerging technologies for application at the university. Participates in viewing training attendance and responses and provides recommendations on continuous improvement.
- ADMINISTRATION: Reviews and submits regular paperwork and processes, such as status reports, bi-weekly or monthly timesheets, assessments for mid-year and annual reviews, and other routine IT and University practices.
- COLLABORATION: Provides backup support and assistance to other team members. Collaborates with co-workers and University colleagues on departmental, division-wide, and institutional projects. Shares process information and makes informal recommendations on how to improve processes and overall job execution within the team/department.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Attends training sessions, vendor presentations, user group meetings, conferences, and seminars. Engages regularly in individual professional development related activities to remain current with industry technology trends and work processes.
- COMMITTEES AND BEYOND JOB DUTIES: Volunteers to undertake tasks that stretch the employee's capabilities. Serves on various committees within the Information Technology division. Participates in external University committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: One (1) or more years of technical or business training experience. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in related technical/business or education areas, or equivalent work experience. Demonstrates working knowledge of hardware and software products and problem solving/troubleshooting skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to participate and contribute to 1-2 projects simultaneously. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements. Ability to maintain complete and accurate records. Basic knowledge of the changing landscape of instructional design, training technologies, and content delivery models and tools. Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic technology issues. Ability to build and maintain relationships with people at a variety of levels. Ability to work in a team and establish collegial relationships with staff, faculty, and peers. Ability to quickly learn hardware, software, and technology services. General knowledge of working with Mac and PC computers and applications in a networked environment. General knowledge of working with productivity software (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft Office). General knowledge of graphic design software and graphic preparation for various delivery (web, PowerPoint, etc.). Demonstrated media capture skills. Demonstrated collaborative technology skills (e.g. web conferencing, online collaboration).
Preferred: One (1) or more years of technical or educational training, design, or support experience. Preference toward individuals with experience working with higher education institutions. One (1) or more years of training/teaching experience for one-to-one, small group, and large group events. Graphic Design (Photoshop, Illustrator), Learning Management System (Sakai LMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, (PeopleSoft Finance Modules), Web Conferencing (e.g. Zoom and Google Meet), Screen and audio capture (Camtasia/Snagit/Panopto/Adobe Creative Cloud), Google Workspace (Docs/Drive), Microsoft Office (Word/PowerPoint), HTML and/or HTML editors, and Project management (Asana, Trello) experience.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $24.23 - $26.92 per hour
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
