Pepperdine University is looking for a degreed Accountant with a solid work ethic, excellent judgment, and a desire to build a long-term career with us. The Accountant will be highly organized, detailed-oriented, and have outstanding accounting analytical and problem-solving abilities. It is important to work effectively and efficiently with minimal oversight, but also function well within a team environment.
Duties:
- Prepare and validate journal entries in compliance with GAAP and FASB rules, and have the ability to determine the correct chart of accounts usage. Clear communication is required in some instances where input from others is needed for journal entry preparation. Journal entries will cover all areas, including but not limited to, domestic and international banking activity, various balance sheet accounts, general accruals, corrections, and adjustments. Understanding of accrual accounting is necessary for appropriate application when preparing journal entries.
- Conduct regular bank and account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger. Must take ownership of the account activity to determine if discrepancies need to be addressed immediately, or will resolve over time. Maintain constant communication with internal and external departments until issues are resolved. Provide advice to others on steps needed to resolve discrepancies, as necessary. Provide input to upper management on improving financial processes to gain efficiencies.
- Work with outside auditors to provide applicable information, and answer questions in order to obtain successful outcomes for annual audits.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Three years of accounting experience with an automated financial system.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures and is detail-oriented.
- Ability to quickly learn new programs and applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a large volume of documents/data for timely and accurate processing.
- Problem-solving experience
- Ability to maintain favorable relationships, effective communication, and a high level of customer service with the University community.
- Strong proficiency in the use of PC programs, including Excel and word processing programs.
- Knowledge and experience using an automated-accounting system.
- Database and ad hoc reporting experience.
Preferred:
- Higher education or not-for-profit organization accounting experience preferred.
- Prior experience using PeopleSoft or Oracle ERP systems.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $25.95 - $28.84 per hour
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
