Under the direction of the Manager of Custodial Services in the Department of Facilities Services (DFS), this role supervises all aspects of the Custodial Services division to ensure an efficiently functioning, safe, and clean environment in which the University can live, learn, and work. The Supervisor oversees Custodial Services personnel and oversees relevant cleaning, maintenance tasks, pest control, waste management, and event support processes during the hours of 8am - 5pm.
Duties
- Supervises and oversees the activities of in-house custodial staff for the by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines provided by the immediate supervisor and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines. Direct the operations of approximately 13 personnel engaged in custodial services in campus buildings and residence halls.
- Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the department, the University, and custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects.
- Enforces University rules and policies regarding employee conduct by advising custodial personnel of the University's rules and policies on employee conduct, issuing verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and recommending progressive disciplinary action to the immediate supervisor as appropriate.
- Inspect work of personnel assigned, by conducting regular inspections, and direct corrective measures to secure satisfactory performance.
- Ensures that custodial personnel have the supplies, chemicals and equipment necessary to perform custodial services by issuing supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items, and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility. Ensures that administrative records and reports regarding custodial personnel are accurate and current by reviewing the work order system and employee time cards to document, track, and analyze as applicable.
- Assure that the rules and regulations of the university, policies and procedures of DFS, and all safety regulations are known and observed by custodial staff.
- Coordinate with the Special Programs Office during summer months to ensure that residence hall rooms are ready when camps and summer guests arrive. Coordinate work between groups so that all rooms will be house cleaned and ready for fall students.
- Responsible for maintaining positive relationships with University customers by providing timely oral and written communication to exchange information and solve challenges.
- Contributes to overall success of the department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned. Provides continuity of custodial services under emergency conditions or unique circumstances by performing custodial duties directly related to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
Graduation from high school or its equivalent; four years of experience in custodial services, two of which must have been supervisory. Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and supplies. Must hold a valid California Driver's license, maintain an acceptable DMV driving record, and remain insurable by University insurance carrier at all times while employed. Able to bring a current DMV driving record printout on the first day of employment. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, climb up and down ladders and scaffolding. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs, and occasionally lifting and carrying 75 pounds. Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use a desktop computer. Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office and Google email; knowledge and experience using a computer work order system.

This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $68,640 - $69,300 per year
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
