The writer increases awareness, understanding, and support of Pepperdine’s vision, mission, and accomplishments among its many constituencies. The role identifies, researches, and writes compelling content that promotes Seaver College for internal and external audiences, disseminating it across multiple platforms including print, digital, and social media.

Duties

  • Content Development: Writes, edits, and assures quality in all written work, including in feature articles, news releases, advertisements, internal news and announcements, videos, marketing campaigns, web content, SEO initiatives, physical and digital signage, and more. Maintains and enhances the Seaver College Newsroom as a robust platform of relevant stories with a strategic focus highlighting major news and storytelling from across the college. Is responsible to research, write, and publish engaging stories in appropriate platforms in coordination with the Office of the Vice Provost. Identifies opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the university to translate their needs into effective communications and develop content strategies that engage a broad range of audiences. Contributes to the University Newsroom as needed. 
  • Internal and External Communication: Is responsible to maintain and enhance the Seaver College Summarium, a weekly digital publication from the dean's office to faculty and staff. Coordinates with the IMC Creative Team to develop content, graphics, and design elements for the publication. Manages strategic messaging for digital and print that may arise to support the needs of the university. Drafts talking points, statements, and messages for Seaver College leadership as needed. Contributes to the drafting and editing process of college-wide and University-wide announcements related to emergency communications, status updates, and other broad communication needs. 
  • Editorial Strategy: Is responsible to identify, create, and execute editorial strategies that support Pepperdine University's and Seaver College's strategic goals. Establish a clear voice across all brand channels and touchpoints. Identify compelling stories and envision new ways to communicate them through various channels. Ensure consistency in all editorial activity. 
  • Social Media: Manages social media communications for the dean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field. 1–2 years of experience in editorial, content, or copywriting/editing capacity with the ability to adapt style and tone to fit various media and audiences. Experience developing, implementing, and measuring editorial initiatives across print, web, and social platforms. A proven ability to work on varying timelines and to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced work environment. Collaborative mindset in order to partner and interface with internal colleagues both in the department and across the University; creative energy. Superior written and verbal communications skills; strong project management skills. Demonstrated experience successfully working with peers. Demonstrated success at working under tight deadlines. Proficiency with Google apps and Google Analytics.

Preferred: Experience in higher education communications and social media content development. Familiarity with SEO policies and measurement. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Workfront, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and Raiser’s Edge.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position that may be eligible for remote or hybrid work in accordance with the University Policy Manual.

Expected Pay Range: $24.89 - $27.21 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
