The Community Engagement Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing Pepperdine’s strategic community engagement efforts. Working closely with the Director of Community Engagement and a small advisory board of key donors, the manager supports and coordinates outreach initiatives, internal and external partnerships, event planning, sponsorships, and stakeholder communications. The incumbent also helps lay the foundation for a growing team that will support the university’s local, national, and global community engagement ambitions.

The manager supports this work through frequent evening, weekend, and occasional out-of-state travel. The manager works with the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications and Partnership Office to communicate, promote, and market events and programs. Maintains current data on all community partners, conducts research, and assists in developing and identifying new community partners.

Duties

Program & Project Support:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of community engagement projects and outreach initiatives that align with the university's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with university departments, faculty, students, and external partners to facilitate and coordinate community-based programs/events, research initiatives, sponsorships, and civic engagement opportunities.
  • Monitor project timelines, milestones, deliverables, and impact assessment metrics. 

Donor & Board Relations:

  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Director of Community Engagement and the Crest advisory board.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare reports, and maintain records that support donor engagement and stewardship activities.
  • Act as a liaison between the board and the university's community engagement efforts. 

Event & Sponsorship Management:

  • Lead the planning and execution of university-sponsored community events, forums, workshops, and partnership showcases.
  • Coordinate event logistics including venue, scheduling, registration, communications, and follow-up.
  • Identify and cultivate sponsorship opportunities with corporate, nonprofit, and community partners to support events and initiatives. 

Outreach & Communications:

  • Develop and manage content for community engagement communications, including newsletters, press releases, promotional materials, website content, and social media updates.
  • Maintain updated databases/websites on community engagement partners and Crest Advisory Board members Represent the university at external events, community meetings, and professional forums to build visibility and strengthen partnerships.
  • Track and report on engagement outcomes and community feedback to inform future planning. 

Miscellaneous:

  • Hire, train, and supervise student workers. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Uphold the University's mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 3-5 years of combined experience in public or corporate relations, higher education, community engagement, or marketing.
  • Exhibits excellence in customer service, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Ability to learn new software programs; ability to work with minimal supervision; excellent organization and communication and interpersonal skills; service-oriented.
  • Well versed in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
  • Personal cell phone usage (mobile phone allowance is provided).
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

Preferred:

  • Experience with CRM systems (i.e. Salesforce) and integrated educational systems (i.e.PeopleSoft).
  • Knowledge of Fonteva.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $29.42 - $32.69 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
