Job Summary/Basic Function:

Are you an experienced Systems Administrator looking to expand your skills to include Oracle and enterprise-level tooling? Teachers College, Columbia University, is searching for a Systems Administrator to join a small team of talented senior system administrators and database administrators to support the college's ERP applications and Oracle systems. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to administer 100+ Linux servers in a cloud-hybrid, enterprise-level environment. They will also either be well versed in Oracle tools like Data Guard, Cloud Control, and RMAN, or have a strong interest in developing Oracle systems management skills.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, patch, monitor, and manage Linux servers
  • Setup, configure and manage Tomcat/Apache web tier services
  • Monitor server and database system availability, performance, and security by utilizing vendor applications, automation tools, and/or creating shell scripts
  • Perform system-level security hardening and performance tuning
  • Ensure successful backups of all systems and databases and perform recoveries as needed, within agreed RPOs and RTOs
  • Maintain a highly available Oracle environment and document and regularly test plans for disaster recovery
  • Work closely with other IT teams to implement and support software solutions, customizations, and integrations
  • Assist with upgrades for the core ERP and other related applications as needed
  • Troubleshoot performance issues, system failures, and security events and provide timely resolutions
  • This position requires on-call work and flexibility to work occasional overtime, nights, and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or the equivalent and 5 years of hands-on experience including:
  • Linux administration in an enterprise-level production Oracle environment, including networking, storage, shell scripting, and installation and configuration of applications
  • Multi-tier application architectures
  • Expertise in identifying and troubleshooting complex technical issues relating to an Oracle environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS, especially EC2, S3, and Route 53 
  • Ellucian Banner products
  • Oracle Data Guard, RMAN backup/recovery, and Cloud Control 
  • System and Data Security best practices
  • IAM and SAML configurations
  • SSL certificate management
  • MS SQL Server and Cluster administration
  • Windows server administration

Salary Range:

$ 96,800.00 - $115,000

Hybrid/Remote
Teachers College maintains a hybrid work environment, which provides employees with flexible work arrangements, while ensuring we preserve the important aspects of our unique in-person college-campus culture.
