Location:  Newark Campus

Role Description:  The Department of Landscape Services is seeking responsible, motivated undergraduate students to assist with outdoor maintenance projects, including repairing and painting campus fencing.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist with the repair and upkeep of campus fencing, including minor fixes and surface preparation.
• Prepare fence surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and scraping as needed.
• Apply paint or sealant to fences using brushes and rollers.
• Ensure all assigned areas are completed to quality and appearance standards

• Operate electric and gas-powered tools required to the repair and maintenance of campus fencing (or similar) 

• Operate university vehicles in a safe manner obeying all traffic laws (or similar)
• Follow safety protocols and guidelines while using tools and materials.
• Report any damage, wear, or maintenance concerns observed during work.
• Perform additional landscape maintenance tasks such as litter picking, weed pulling, and debris clean-up, as necessary.

Fence Repair & Painting Safety:  Students will be provided with all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and appropriate clothing, and will receive training on proper and safe use of tools and materials. Standard paints and sealants will be used in accordance with safety guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Valid driver’s license. (Preferred but not required)
• Positive and professional attitude when interacting with staff, students, and visitors.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

• Must be able to lift, push or pull 50 lbs. frequently (or similar)
