This service provides housing related support to homeless young people aged 18 to 25. It provides these incredible individuals, who have been vulnerably housed, rough sleeping, in temporary accommodation and existing supported housing services, with an affordable tenancy in a shared accommodation.
It is essential that the successful candidate holds a drivers licence and has access to a car.
Where does the role fit in?
Our Young Persons Shared Accommodation service supports up to 32 young people to enable them to live independently across Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire, and Torfaen. You would be working with them to set up and manage their tenancy through teaching them budgeting skills and supporting with benefit applications or queries. This is an exciting opportunity as this is a new service and a new approach to supporting young people who would otherwise not be able to afford or find a property for themselves.
Day to Day Duties:
As a Housing Intervention Officer your day will consist of:
- Managing your own caseload
- Traveling to the people we support’s homes
- Engaging and interacting with the people we support (intensive support)
- Helping our young people get set up in their new tenancy
- Writing support plans, risk assessments and reviews.
- Keeping accurate records of interactions with our service users.
- Teaching budget skills to ensure rent is paid
- Supporting with benefit queries and applications so a good knowledge and understanding is required
- Supporting with any housing issues (this can include support with cleaning, laundry, gardening, teaching cooking skills)
- Working with external agencies and signposting the people we support to the appropriate services suited to their needs
- Support to access work, education and training (support with CV writing, job applications, interview techniques)
- Support to access appropriate health services (Mental health services, GP, Dentist)
Our aim is to ensure we equip these individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to manage their home independently.
You will work with a range of different personalities and behaviours so you will need to be able to adapt your approach to engage with a diverse cliental as well as a good level of knowledge of welfare benefits, housing legislation and the issues faced by young people at risk of homelessness.
