Under the direction of the Manager, Maintenance Services and the Supervisor, Maintenance Services for Department of Facilities Services (DFS) and in collaboration with your colleagues, respond to work order requests and supervisors' directions to perform installation, repair, replacement, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and fixtures throughout campus. Collaborate with DFS and other University departments to initiate and deliver high-quality projects on budget and in a timely manner.

Duties

  • Ensure electrical equipment and infrastructure are properly installed and maintained, comply with electrical codes, and adhere to safety regulations. Perform all work in compliance with industry standards, best practices, and Pepperdine standards. Use appropriate tools, relevant plans, and written and verbal instructions to service, replace, inspect, and test electrical systems, equipment, and components, and to detect and resolve malfunctions and deficiencies. 
  • Connect electrical wiring between circuit breakers, transformers, controls, components, and equipment according to wiring diagrams. Test electrical circuits and components for continuity. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment. Place conduit, pipes, or tubing inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas. 
  • Identify and address issues in need of attention and generate work orders accordingly.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area. 
  • Accurately record and report all work performed indicating the time and materials expended.
  • Manage materials, parts, and equipment, including inventory tracking, record keeping, product research, and supply procurement. 
  • Maintain required trade-specific training and certifications and obtain further training as needed.
  • Escort and manage vendors when on-site. 
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external participants, University administrators and stakeholders to make sure they are well-informed and that work proceeds on schedule and with minimal impact on University operations. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Proof of legal U.S. working status is required. Graduation from high school or its equivalent is required. Two (2) years of technical experience as an apprentice or maintenance electrician. Hold valid driver's license, and be insurable under University's standard auto insurance requirements. Some technical knowledge of practices, principles, and techniques in the electrical field. The ability to learn and understand plans, design specifications, and manufacturers' instructions and recommendations to configure equipment and components, ensure their proper installation, and remedy issues. Analytical and problem-solving skills to successfully resolve issues. Strong English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Must consistently present a professional demeanor and a positive attitude. Ability to work independently and as a team. Willingness and ability to periodically work overtime hours, respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends, and work rotating weekend shifts providing general maintenance duties for the campus. Normal mobility and ability to move around construction sites. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, traverse rugged terrain, and climb up and down ladders and scaffolding. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs. Familiarity with tools and equipment of the trade such as basic hand tools, and voltmeters. Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office and experience working with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), preferably TMA.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $24.30 - $27.00 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
