The Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Alumni Affairs is responsible for leading the alumni survey initiative and strategically implementing the results to contribute to Advancement’s success by strengthening alumni engagement and deepening the sense of connection to their alma mater. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs, this individual will oversee and direct the Waves Discovery Project (WDP) team and other ongoing alumni initiatives, with the opportunity to provide additional strategic direction and management. In addition to serving in a management role, the AVC serves as a leader and assists in vision casting for Alumni Affairs.

Duties

  • Collaborate with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs and the WDP Manager to design and execute an alumni survey process aimed at gathering valuable insights from Pepperdine's alumni community to learn more about their animating passions so that the University might strengthen the appeal of its outreach to alumni, communicate in ways that alumni will find meaningful and, ultimately, build a stronger community of shared purposes.
  • Provide strategic direction to help the WDP Manager recruit, train, and support student interviewers and a prioritization process for alumni interviews. Oversee the WDP manager and robust team of student employees who will meet with alumni and executive the discovery program. 
  • Manage the identification, communication, and coordination with critical internal and external stakeholders regarding the WDP Manager's progress. 
  • Create ongoing intake mechanisms to gather alumni feedback, gather and disseminate to appropriate internal stakeholders. Collaborate with other internal departments and create ways to respond to alumni in response to their feedback in a meaningful way which will draw alumni back to the university.
  • Analyze data and survey results effectively to vastly increase alumni involvement and participation in the life of the University with internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing the formation of loyal alumni from the beginning of their Pepperdine journey as students. 
  • Serve as a highly collaborative and strategic leader to implement strategies for Alumni Affairs cross-organizationally as assigned by the Senior Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs. Establish and implement short- and long-term organizational goals set forth in the Advancement Strategic Plan and the Ascend Together 2030 Strategic Plan. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years related work experience, preferably in higher education; Experienced in organizing and coordinating field studies, volunteer activities or other complex human enterprises; Experience in designing, conducting and analyzing survey results; Evidence of applied emotional intelligence in analyzing data and survey results; ability to develop and implement strategic plans and university-wide initiatives; Ability to staff, train, and manage a team of highly productive individuals; ability to support and integrate the Christian mission of Pepperdine University into daily work; Strong ability to develop sincere, productive relationships and to build trust both with internal colleagues and external constituencies; Clear and effective written and oral communication and presentation skills; Ability to apply good judgment and a strong ethical code and to handle confidential information with scrupulous honesty and discretion; High level of integrity; Articulate and professional; Strong work ethic; Flexible and collegial; Strategic thinker; Willingness and ability to articulate Pepperdine University’s unique mission of Christian faith and academic excellence.

Preferred: 10+ years related work experience, preferably in higher education; Pepperdine alumnus; work experience at Pepperdine University or similar faith-based institution.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $119,000 - $140,000 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
