The Department of Facilities Services (DFS), performs all aspects of University equipment use and maintenance for the Landscape Services division to ensure an aesthetically pleasing, safe, and clean University environment. Under the guidance of the Landscape and Irrigation Services Supervisor and the Manager, the Landscape Equipment Operator will work closely with DFS and other University departments to ensure assignments are completed with the highest quality and efficiency.
Duties
- Transport and operate a wide range of light and heavy landscape equipment, such as walk behind lawn mowers, John Deere 8800 TerrainCut, and large John Deere 3250 tractor.
- Participate in various work activities associated with job assignment including gardening and manual labor tasks such as planting, fertilizing, weeding, trenching, etc.
- Responsible for the creation, organization, and maintenance of accurate maintenance records.
- Support the DFS Landscape Services project in all aspects of operations.
- Monitor the operation and condition of equipment daily.
- Inspect and service equipment as necessary to maintain proper operating and safety standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Uphold the University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: High school education or equivalent. Two years of experience in landscaping, plus one year operating landscaping equipment. Professional demeanor; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proven capability to meet deadlines; normal mobility and ability to move about on construction sites, and to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs. Exercises English written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; able to consistently project a professional demeanor and positive attitude, and able to effectively and professionally communicate. Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office. Normal mobility and ability to move about on construction sites, and to lift and carry 50 pounds, including up and down stairs. Able to meet University requirements for automobile insurability under the University’s insurance. Able to drive personal vehicle for University business (mileage reimbursed); holds a valid driver’s license.
Preferred: Additional education and/or technical school training is preferred.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $20.50 - $22.00

Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
