The Associate Director (AD) of Residence Life is a live-on position that directly supports the work of Housing and Residence Life by giving primary oversight to full-time Resident Directors and Graduate Assistants, Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I) summer interns, Resident Advisor/Spiritual Life Advisor selection process, department assessment, assists with formation/training and other department initiatives.
This position oversees the apartment communities on campus and supervises professional staff and graduate student leaders who serve those communities. As a staff member in Student Affairs who works closely with students, this person serves as a Christian role model and promotes a biblical worldview.

Duties

  • Supervise, train, facilitate growth in, and assess a cohort of Resident Directors and Graduate Advisors. Assist with selection and training of all Housing and Residence Life staff and student leaders.
  • Provide oversight to the summer residence life program. This includes selecting, supervising, and training summer RAs and ACUHO-i interns.
  • Support Resident Directors and Graduate Resident Advisors as part of the Associate Director on-call rotation, respond to and facilitate response to Student Care Team cases, collaborate with campus partners such as Public Safety, Counseling Center, and Office of Student Conduct in support of students.
  • Provide oversight to the George Page Apartments Graduate Assistants and student leader team. Assist with coordination of check-ins and check-outs, leadership development during RA/SLA Formation, Fire/Life/Safety checks, and serve as a liaison to the Caruso School of Law for resident concerns. Serve on a Student Affairs Emergency Response Team and provide leadership to the Residential Emergency Response Team.
  • Assess, document, and develop written goals, learning outcomes, and student engagement through weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Work with Director of Residence Life in assessing department outcomes and writing sections of the HRL annual report.
  • Provide leadership to the Residence Life staff and serve as a member of the Housing and Residence Life leadership team. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend convocation/chapel on a weekly basis.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree; 3-5+ years of professional residence life experience.
  • An understanding and appreciation for discipleship focus of Christian higher education.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Program management experience.
  • Crisis response and on-call experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and provide leadership in an emergency.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and collegially in a fast-paced, high demand environment.
  • Ability to integrate Christian faith and student development theories and practice; excellent communication skills; ability to effectively interact with students; ability to problem solve, manage conflict, and create inclusive and accessible communities.
  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ, active member in a local church, and serves as a Christian role model.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment including computers and google software.

Preferred:

  • Three to five years professional experience with supervision of graduate or professional level staff.
  • Experience managing crisis response and building teams.
  • Evidence of service within the local church and leadership in service and ministry teams.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $68,640 - $70,000 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
