Pepperdine University’s College of Health Science (PCHS) in collaboration with its School of Nursing (SON) is seeking a qualified and motivated Simulation Operation Technician to provide support for all nursing simulation operations and work closely with the PCHS Simulation Center team to ensure best practices in healthcare simulation are used to enhance student learning. The technician will provide essential technical and audio/visual support for healthcare simulation operations and technology, including preparation, maintenance, and repair of simulation mannequins and all simulation center equipment, develop and program simulation scenarios using vendor-provided software under the direction of nursing faculty, and operate data and multimedia capture systems.

The technician will report to the Director of Simulation and Skills Education. The technician’s primary responsibilities are directed to the SON, and the position requires close collaboration with the Dean of the SON and all nursing faculty. The technician will also be expected to work collaboratively with the director and other PCHS healthcare programs to support their simulation and skills education needs.

Duties

  • Partner with the PCHS Simulation Center team and nursing faculty to develop healthcare simulation experiences that utilize state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and technology to align with the educational goals and objectives of the SON. 
  • Support all simulation center operations and activities:
    • Assist with scheduling simulation activities and managing the allocation of Simulation Center resources.
    • Prepare and apply moulage to standardized patients and simulators to enhance the realism of simulation scenarios.
    • Assist with managing records and data within the PCHS Simulation Center, including equipment specifications, maintenance logs, and inventory documentation.
    • Oversee the setup and breakdown of equipment, including patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment, supplies, and audiovisual systems.
    • Oversee the preparation of documentation, scenario setups, and necessary supplies for all healthcare simulation experiences.
    • Provide audiovisual support for the setup, operation, and recording of simulation experiences.
    • Perform regular assessment and maintenance of simulators and task trainers, including cleaning, replacement of disposable components, system updates, and emergency repairs as needed.
    • Assist with the management, installation, and troubleshooting of software and hardware upgrades.
    • Assist with the auditing and testing of all healthcare simulation equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with current specification requirements.
    • Maintain current knowledge and expertise in the operation, application, and advancement of healthcare simulation technologies.
    • Perform emergency repairs on simulation equipment and systems; coordinate with vendors for required repairs, replacements, or substitutions; and maintain accurate records of all repair activities.
    • Ensure the safe, effective, and appropriate operation of all simulation and educational activities within the PCHS Simulation Center:
      • Assist with the orientation of students, faculty, staff, and clients to the Simulation Center, ensuring familiarity with its resources, equipment, protocols, and procedures.
      • Assist in delivering best-practice training for faculty and staff on simulation technology and education, including safe and effective simulation practices.
      • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of PCHS Simulation Center policies, procedures, best practices, and operational processes.
      • Actively participate in training and professional development related to healthcare simulation education.
      • Provide technical support to faculty and staff for all aspects of healthcare simulation conducted within the Simulation Center. 
  • Support the Simulation Center team in maintaining accurate records, ensuring timely reporting, and meeting ongoing accreditation requirements: Utilize center software systems to record simulation sessions, manage case information, collect and store evaluation data, track simulation contact hours, and generate summary reports on Simulation Center usage and performance.
  • Assist with inventory management by ordering, tracking, and maintaining accurate records of all equipment, supplies, and assets within the PCHS Simulation Center. 
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, curricular objectives, agency guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • An associate’s degree
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, and medical terminology
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computing and technology skills, including expertise in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, along with a high level of proficiency in the use of computing technologies.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work effectively both independently and collaboratively, and build trusting relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®)
  • Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in the setup, breakdown, and application of moulage for healthcare simulation scenarios.
  • Experience in assessing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware, software, and technical equipment.
  • At least one year of professional experience in simulation-based learning and clinical skills education.
  • A record of outstanding professional performance.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $26.82 - $29.80 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
