The Quantitative Skills Coordinator will be responsible for integrating the Student Success Center's mission with the goal of helping students improve their quantitative reasoning skills as an essential pillar for a strong start to a successful academic experience.

This position would advance goals 1 and 5 of the University Strategic Plan: 1) Advance student learning and superior scholarship and 5) Develop resources that support the aspiration to be a premier, global Christian university. Additionally, the position contributes to the University mission by recognizing the students at the center of the academic enterprise and a person of infinite dignity.

During one-on-one, appointment-based sessions, the Quantitative Skills Coordinator will support students in the following courses/topics: (1) Calculus (including derivatives, antiderivatives, multivariable optimization, graphing); (2) Probability (including combinations, permutations, counting principles); (3) Algebra and Trigonometry (various functions, factoring methods, trigonometry functions, graphing); and Statistics.

Duties

  • Provide tutoring for students in mathematics. Provide individualized academic support to students, such as planning strategies for learning support in mathematics and statistics.
  • Create and deliver presentations, resources and workshops.
  • Work within University software to track and analyze metrics.
  • Create engaging educational materials and identify resources for students to grow and acquire new quantitative skills.
  • Consult with faculty teaching courses to develop programming that addresses barriers to the acquisition and application of quantitative skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement monthly student study sessions to guide student learning, as needed.
  • Assist in recruitment and training of student peer tutors for Math.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, math or related.
  • Expertise or experience in tutoring or teaching.
  • Qualified individuals will have knowledge of methods for succeeding in quantitative subjects; i.e., note taking, study methods, exam preparation.
  • A firm understanding of Advanced Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Introductory Statistics, and Lab Skills.
  • Qualified individuals will possess the ability to interact effectively with students and collaborate with faculty. They posses the ability to be at work on time, follow instructions (verbal and written), respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance; ability to embrace and promote a diverse environment.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite, data analysis tools, and student database management systems.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, math or related.
  • University-level experience that demonstrates an ability to develop and lead a program that enhances quantitative reasoning skills.
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft and Navigate (EAB).

This is a Restricted, Nonexempt, 30 hour per week, 9-month per year position.

Expected Pay Range: $26.15 - $29.05 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
