  • Providing a vision and a path of community belonging for parents and families by creating meaningful connections using affinity-related channels, offering resources, events, experiences, and programs for ongoing engagement.
  • Engaging and cultivating a sense of community among parents and family members.
  • Supporting the overall academic success and personal development of the student body while assisting families to become appropriately engaged with the Pepperdine community.
  • Supporting the vision elements from the University’s strategic plan, including “Pepperdine 2030: Ascend Together”: Strengthen parent and family engagement to advance affiliation with Pepperdine.

Duties

  • Independently travel to and administer Waves of Welcome parties in various U.S. locations. This includes liaising with party hosts to ensure parties meet Pepperdine standards and providing guidance on best practices for Waves of Welcome parties. 
  • Work with the Director of Parent and Family Engagement in managing Waves of Welcome parties and other events, programs, and resources that support the goals and interests of parents and families.
  • Independently manage Pepperdine's Adopt-a-Dorm Program, including serving as the Parents Program liaison with Housing and Residence Life campus partners in managing events, programs, and resources that enhance the on-campus living experience of first-year and transfer students. Manage and promote parent participation in the program to ensure all residents' living experiences are enhanced. Maintain program records for parent donors participating in the program for stewardship purposes. Assist in student intern supervision with the Adopt-a-Dorm program and Send-off Party execution. 
  • Independently build and secure a base of parent volunteers from local Waves of Welcome parties. 
  • Work with the Director of Parent and Family Engagement to manage and administer the monthly Pepperdine Parents in Prayer meetings, Malibu Explorers, the Parent and Family Book Club, and other programming. 
  • Involve and manage all volunteers at any and all on-campus events, including New Student Orientation, Waves Weekend, and graduations, serving as the Parents Program liaison. 
  • Maintain data/productivity of information derived from event attendance and Adopt-a-Dorm participants for donor cultivation, stewardship, and strategic pipeline development. 
  • Work with the Director of Parent and Family Engagement to compile, create, and manage the monthly Pepperdine Parents Newsletter. Maintain the Parents Program email inbox, answering questions and comments daily, and/or connecting them to the appropriate person or department. Serve as the department liaison and manage relationships with selected internal campus partners, such as the Office of Admission for Student Receptions, and Student Activities during NSO events. Create programming and share resources that enhance the experience of first-year and transfer students, and engage parents and families.
  • Carefully and consistently track all expenses and revenues for the assigned budget area using "product codes." Substantiate and reallocate credit card statements before posted deadlines. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • A bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience related to program activity planning and project coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, organize, and motivate volunteers.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional people skills.
  • Ability to organize time, projects, and details.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to connect with Seaver parents, students, and families in a meaningful way that creates lasting relationships and goodwill for the University.
  • Ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally.
  • Is a goal-oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, energy, creativity, and focus in a constantly changing and evolving environment.

Preferred:

  • 4 years of experience related to program activity planning and project coordination.
  • Familiarity with Pepperdine culture, mission, and values.
  • Working knowledge of Pepperdine platforms and systems (i.e. Raiser's Edge, Salesforce Market Cloud, PeopleSoft, Google applications).

This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $70,304 - $73,000 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
