Lehigh University, a prestigious and vibrant academic community, is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our Campus Safety Division as a Sergeant. In this crucial role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of our campus community.

As a Sergeant, you will supervise and coordinate the activities of a squad/shift of police officers and security officers assigned to patrol designated areas of the campus and adjacent properties. Your leadership, decision-making skills, and ability to manage personnel will be instrumental in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. 

Position Number: S74340

This position is a Grade: 10 - 40 with a salary starting at $66,000 and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct supervision of patrol squad/shift assigned.
• Supervise, manage, coach and discipline full-time Officers assigned to platoon shift.
• May serve as Department supervisor in absence of superior officer.
• First responder for all types of campus emergencies: accidents, behavioral, criminal, fire, medical, etcGO.
• Administers emergency medical assistance.
• Communicates with other departmental members and/or University contacts to exchange information about daily events, suspicious activity, safety issues, etcGO.
• Investigates accident scene to obtain clues and gather evidence, questions suspects, witnesses and/or victims.
• Assists with crime prevention programming and community education initiatives. Participates in crime prevention activities and initiatives for students and/or other campus constituents. May provide advice or guidance to campus constituents regarding crime prevention.
• Responsible for processing all police reports as well as related paperwork to ensure they are factual, accurate, and clearly explain the situation and contain few errors or problems.

Qualifications:

• Associates, Vocational or Technical Degree in a related field
• Three to five years of related work experience
• Police Academy Training
• Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License required 
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
