Lehigh University Libraries seeks a creative and learner-centered library professional to join our highly collaborative team of liaison librarians within Lehigh’s merged Library and Technology Services (LTS) organization in the role of Engineering Librarian. Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Instruction & Outreach, this position provides specialized research expertise to students and faculty in the PC Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (RCEAS), with special emphasis on interdisciplinarity  and project-based and experiential learning. Additionally, this role offers opportunities to explore the role of generative AI in scientific research.

In addition to providing comprehensive engineering research and curricular support, this position will have space, time, and administrative support toward professional development and to build relationships across campus toward meaningful library-integration into university programs and initiatives. This position is an opportunity to continually develop robust research support skills, to approach teaching and learning imaginatively, and to contribute to a growing and dynamic university community.

This position is a Grade: 10 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $66,270 - $80,620 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

Essential job functions:

• Research support and instruction: The Engineering librarian liases to the departments of Bioengineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering,  providing support to RCEAS students and researchers across the research lifecycle. They plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs across all areas of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The Librarian additionally creates asynchronous learning materials such as library guides and digital tutorials to support student learning and provides reference services to students, staff, faculty, and community members.

• Collection development. In alignment with departmental needs, the Engineering Librarian will develop collections for curricular and research needs in support of RCEAS departments, including but not limited to databases, specialized engineering resources, journals, print and ebooks, and tools. Alongside active collection development, the Librarian will participate in ongoing evaluation of current collections. The Librarian will also be able to advocate for collections in support of holistic learning across the breadth of the campus community.

• Outreach & partnerships. The Engineering Librarian will build relationships with the library and other LTS staff, and with partners across and beyond the university to collaboratively develop relevant and meaningful orientations, programs, and events. The Librarian will assist with library marketing and communications as needed.

• Professional development. Based on institutional, organizational, and individual goals, the Engineering Librarian will pursue professional development learning opportunities. The Librarian is also encouraged to and will be supported in participating in the wider regional and national library and higher education community.

Qualifications:

• Three to five years relevant work experience
• Experience working both independently and collaboratively across varied groups within a complex organization
• Knowledge of existing and emerging trends in engineering research; Working familiarity with the breadth and depth of engineering research resources
• Higher education teaching experience, and/or presenting to diverse audiences
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library science program, or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant discipline
