Assistant Director - Community Service

As Assistant Director of Community Service, you'll develop transformative programs that connect students with meaningful volunteer opportunities while fostering civic responsibility and leadership skills.
About the Opportunity
This full-time exempt position coordinates volunteerism and public service opportunities that complement Lehigh's high-impact teaching, learning, and research initiatives. You'll create experiences that prepare graduates to engage with the world and lead lives of purpose, directly supporting the university's mission to develop active citizens who value and contribute to their communities.
Position Number: S99190
This position is a Grade: 8 - 40 with an approximate salary range of $47,570-$57,090 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with department leadership to develop and execute semester-long learning outcomes and action steps for the Community Service Office.
- Communicate office goals and mission-driven "Guiding Principles" to university stakeholders and community partners.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay current on student development theories and service-learning trends.
- Lead the execution of flagship initiatives, including the "Soring Fling" community festival and the "Volunteer Experience" pre-orientation program.
- Design and facilitate service-training and professional development for various student populations, including fraternities and sororities.
- Act as a Program Coordinator for The LeaderShape Institute, managing high-impact leadership retreats and workshops for the student body.
- Apply leadership frameworks (such as CliftonStrengths and MBTI) to coach student employees and develop programming for local community schools.
- Serve as the primary university contact for national civic initiatives like the All-In Campus Democracy Challenge and the Campus Vote Project.
- Oversee the planning and evaluation of Lehigh's Civic Engagement Day and year-round democratic participation programming.
- Implement comprehensive assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness and ensure alignment with the student life curriculum.
- Analyze date and research "promising practices" to recommend innovative improvements for community engagement and leadership initiatives.
- Build strategic partnerships across the university to integrate service and leadership principles into broader faculty and staff initiatives.
- Represent the Community Service Office on Dean of Students committees, championing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus community.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Higher Education or Student Affairs or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- One to three years of related work experience
- Solid computer skills
- Good decision-making skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership development experience
