Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Health and Human Performance's Leisure and Sport Management Program at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#118040) in sport management at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service, and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. We seek a candidate with a collaborative, engaged, student-centered approach to performance and responsibilities. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the undergraduate major in Leisure and Sport Management, the master’s degree in Leisure, Sport, and Tourism Management, and the doctoral degree in Human Performance with a concentration in Leisure Studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following: relevant teaching and mentorship experience in undergraduate and graduate sport studies, sport management, or sport governance curricula; a commitment to excellence in teaching; an ability to develop effective rapport with students and colleagues; experience with the design and delivery of both online and face-to-face coursework and curricula; and evidence of a focused, productive, and potentially fundable research program.
Required Education
A terminal degree in sport management, recreation, sport, parks, leisure services management, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- Curricular expertise in the study of sport, including sport for development, sport and events, or sport management and governance.
- Track record of scholarship that incorporates a critical theoretical lens.
- Track record of extramural funding in support of a focused research agenda.
- Service to professional organizations via committee service.
- Service to scholarly publications in the field will receive special consideration.
- Demonstrated evidence or strong potential for securing external research or community engagement funding.
