Teaching Artist – Violin/Viola - 200055 Iowa
Drake University invites candidates interested and experienced in teaching studio violin and viola lessons to undergraduate music majors, minors, and non-major participants. Potential for additional assignments, depending upon departmental need and candidate qualifications, to include chamber music, studio teaching techniques course, and Music Fundamentals (a basic music theory course for non-majors). This is a one-semester appointment (Spring 2025), with the possibility of continuation.

This responsible person will provide transportation for Drake students, faculty, staff, and visitors on the designated bus route around campus. The interested candidate should be able to work Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday 8:00 pm -1:00 am. The successful candidate should be able to perform all the essential job functions and meet the minimum education and experience requirements.

Teaching duties assigned, commensurate with the candidate's expertise to include Studio Flute with a weekly flute studio class, which consists of undergraduate music majors, music minors, and non-major participants. Other duties include weekly chamber music (flute choir) coaching, attending voice juries and collaborating with the Wind/Percussion Area. The anticipated weekly load will be approximately nine (9) hours, for the duration of the semester.

Candidates with backgrounds in animal behavior, behavioral husbandry and training, endangered species conservation, vertebrate zoology, primatology, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have experience doing research and / or coordinating student intern projects in an AZA-accredited zoo environment, as well as possess a PhD or be ABD in a related field. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Candidates will teach a 3/3 course load, including courses in animal behavior, ethological methods, endangered species conservation, and zoology courses in their field of expertise. Successful candidates will have experience conducting collaborative research and supervising student internships with a variety of captive species, particularly endangered species. Candidates who can engage undergraduate students in meaningful roles in ongoing research are especially welcome.
