Job Duties
Position serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the facility on all matters relative to public safety, inmates, personnel, volunteers, programs, security, and other activities. Responsible for the establishment and implementation of objectives, formulation and interpretation of policies and procedures in accordance with Division requirements, and evaluation of all institutional programs. To provide a satisfying and rewarding work environment for all employees, free from intimidation, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of corrections policies and procedures. Knowledge of criminal justice coupled with demonstrated human relations skills, communication skills, analytical skills, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to make responsible, honest, fair, and consistent decisions and the demonstrated ability to remain impartial in dealing with staff and inmates. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes that may occur. High School diploma or equivalent. Considerable progressive experience within the Department of Corrections.
Ability to complete the Virginia Ethics Council Conflict of Interest (COI) filing within two (2) business days of hire and annually thereafter, in accordance with the Code of Virginia § 2.2-3100.
Ability to complete COI training within two (2) months of hire and every other year thereafter, as required by Code of Virginia § 2.2-3132.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of correctional best practices and evidence-based practices. An equivalent combination of education, training, knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute in lieu of educational requirements.
