Department Summary
The University of North Texas (UNT) College of Music is the largest public university music program and one of the most respected comprehensive music schools in the United States. It offers fully accredited degrees from the bachelor to doctoral levels and is home to the world’s first jazz studies degree program. Faculty include internationally acclaimed artists and scholars in composition, conducting, ethnomusicology, music education, music entrepreneurship, music history, music theory and performance. Position Overview
Teaching: Recruit, retain, and teach an outstanding enrollment of undergraduate and graduate trombone students. Supervise graduate degree requirements, including graduate committees and dissertation documents. Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, coaching trombone choir, chamber ensembles and trombone pedagogy, literature, and excerpt classes.
Research/creative activities: Maintain an established national/international profile as a performing artist (as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and/or other genres of performance).
Service: Participate fully in academic and professional activities, including service assignments, across the campus and the profession. Other: Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Earned master’s degree in music with minimum five years professional performance experience. Demonstrated success teaching at the college/university level with a proven record of attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding students. Artist-level performer of solo and chamber repertoire. High and consistent standards of professional ethics and collegiality.
Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Professor rank should have a sustained record of scholarship and external research funding, successful mentoring of junior faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and recognized service activities. Must meet UNT’s criteria for tenure.

Preferred Qualifications
Earned doctorate strongly preferred. An established record of professional trombone performance experience with preference given for bass trombone. Professional experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician. Performance expertise across repertoire including and beyond the European canon. Experience and enthusiasm for commissioning/premiering/recording new works for trombone.
