About the Role

We’re looking for an inspiring and forward‑thinking safety leader to help shape the future of health, safety, and wellbeing at Melbourne Water. As our Senior Manager Safety Services, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering our safety strategy, strengthening our integrated management system, and embedding a genuinely generative safety culture across the organisation.

In this influential role, you will guide a high‑performing team, provide strategic advice to senior leaders, and drive programs that address safety risks across a diverse and complex operating environment. You’ll champion learning, continuous improvement, and innovative approaches that support our people, customers, and community.

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and review of a safety work plan.
  • Manage the design and implementation of safety programs and projects that are linked to known hazards within Melbourne Water’s operating environment.
  • Lead the safety services team responsible for providing advice and monitoring overall safety performance.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership, advice, and consultation to ensure that best practice, experiences, and solutions are implemented in line with Melbourne Water’s Strategic Direction and Health, Safey and Environment (HSE) work plan.
  • Provide advice and as required report to the Executive and Board on relevant safety matters.

About you:

  • Deep knowledge of health and safety practices, including hazard identification and control.
  • Ability to design, implement and review safety programs and assurance frameworks.
  • Expertise in risk‑based approaches to safety management and performance monitoring.
  • Ability to lead, coach and inspire teams to deliver safety strategy and build engagement.
  • Ability to act as the primary point of contact for key internal business units and external partners to ensure safety objectives are aligned and potential risks are mitigated.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environments, audit requirements, and certification processes (e.g., IMS Certification).
  • Experience in design, implement and review safety programs and assurance frameworks with a risk‑based approach to safety management and performance monitoring.
  • High energy, resilience, and ability to drive business results.
