The Opportunity
This is your chance to join a vibrant and forward-thinking team in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, part of the Faculty of Information Technology. As a Research Fellow, you’ll be at the forefront of developing innovative AI solutions to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Working within the Environmental Informatics Hub and reporting to the Director, you’ll help lead research into sequential decision-making under uncertainty, such as reinforcement learning and adaptive management, with a focus on biodiversity conservation. You’ll contribute to high-impact publications and collaborate across disciplines to deliver research that makes a real-world difference. In addition a component of the position (20%) will involve teaching subjects relating to your research.
About You
You hold a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) and bring demonstrated expertise in sequential decision-making approaches such as Markov Decision Processes, reinforcement learning, deep learning, or adaptive management. You have a strong track record of research publications and experience working both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams. Your excellent communication skills and programming proficiency (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R) support your ability to lead or contribute to impactful research initiatives.
