Duration of the training program: 12 months 

Term of the Contract: 3 Years in line with clause 52 of the Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement

At the end of the training program, CALHN will work with the employee to find a suitable placement within SA Health for the remainder of the 3 year contract.

About the role

You will be responsible for managing the care of all patients allocated to your team within a specific General Medical Unit at either the Royal Adelaide Hospital or The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This will be achieved in consultation with the responsible Junior Staff, Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals. Maintaining a high standard of medical care for inpatients and outpatients, you will keep readily accessible records of patient care and bring any doubts or concerns to the attention of the Consultant. If in a registrar position, you will be required to lead the Medical Emergency Response Team, servicing all inpatients in the hospital. You will be required to liaise with the Emergency Department regarding inpatient admissions. You will provide effective and accurate clinical handovers at the change of daily shifts and at the change of a clinical attachment, and commence discharge planning at the earliest opportunity. As part of your role, you will actively contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement activities and continuing education activities.

Holding a Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent, you will be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner and have general registration with AHPRA. With  previous clinical experience, you will demonstrate competency in range of routine and common procedural ward-based skills. You will work well as a team member, and bring the ability to communicate confidently and appropriately with patients and their family/relatives.
