Join the fast-paced environment of the Emergency Department, where no two days are the same. As an Emergency Department Administrative Officer, you’ll be the first point of contact for patients and families during some of their most challenging moments.

This part-time, short-term contract position runs until 26 June 2026, offering you the chance to contribute to South Australia's largest health network. Based within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network at Modbury Hospital, you will play an essential role in ensuring smooth administrative operations in our busy Emergency Department.

About the Role

This is a 24/7 service, and you’ll be rostered to provide essential administrative support that keeps the department running smoothly. From managing patient admissions and transfers to ensuring accurate data entry and supporting clinical teams, your role is critical to delivering timely, safe, and compassionate care.

You’ll work in a dynamic team environment, responding to urgent situations and maintaining professionalism under pressure. Your ability to stay calm and empathetic when interacting with patients and families experiencing stress, trauma, pain, and injury will make a real difference.

You will:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support across emergency department operations
  • Manage patient records and documentation with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Coordinate with medical staff, patients, and families in a fast-paced environment
  • Support clinical teams with scheduling, correspondence, and data entry tasks

About You

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a busy, customer-focused environment and can remain composed in difficult situations. You will have:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure in a fast-paced setting.
  • Resilience and adaptability to manage challenging interactions with empathy and professionalism.
  • Experience in clerical or administrative roles, ideally in a health or hospital setting.
  • Sound computer skills and knowledge of office procedures.

Experience in an Emergency Department or hospital environment and familiarity with medical terminology or EMR systems are highly desirable.

The NALHN Emergency Department (ED) Administrative Officers are a dedicated team, specialising in providing a high standard of customer service, and administrative skills, whilst also supporting NALHN ED clinical staff in a dynamic, fast paced environment to ensure superior patient care across the organisation.

Located at both Modbury and Lyell McEwin sites, ED administrative staff are front line workers responsible for a broad range of administrative duties, such as accurately capturing vital information for patients needing emergency care, as well as efficiently initiating admissions and transfers from ED, to enable ongoing care for patients needing further treatment within SA Health.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:

Lyell McEwin Hospital The major hospital in the north and north-east for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetrics, paediatrics and outpatient services.

Modbury Hospital A general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.

Mental Health - The Division of Mental Health provides a comprehensive range of public mental health services for youth, adults and older people in northern Adelaide. Services are provided through community health centres and hospitals, and to consumers in their own homes. 

Forensic Mental Health - A statewide service that operates for forensic patients and prisoners. 

Community Sites - Elizabeth GP Plus, Modbury GP Plus and Gilles Plains GP Plus Super Clinics providing community based care.
