About the role: 

Reporting to the Head of Unit, this role is responsible for providing clinical services of the highest possible standard to individuals in NHS ED identified to have mental health related events within the team by providing clinical leadership and contribution to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care.

Duties for the role will include:

  • Working harmoniously with all members of the clinical team,
  • Providing appropriate specialist level care to patients,
  • Coordinating the follow up care of patients,
  • Providing clinical supervision to Senior Medical Practitioners, Trainee Medical Officers, and Medical Students,
  • Participating in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols,
  • Mental health clinician providing timely, on-site assessment, de-escalation, and coordinated follow-up

About you:

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration (Psychiatry); or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award,
  • Demonstrated high standard of clinical practice in Psychiatry,
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, leadership and motivational skills,
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team,
  • Demonstrated participation in approved continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification,
  • Experience with the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff,
  • Extensive clinical experience relevant to work in Psychiatry,
  • Experience in quality improvement activities,
  • Experience in a broad range of medical fields relevant to the practice of emergency medicine
