Health and Safety Business Partner NSW & QLD – Container Deposit Scheme (CDS)
Statewide travel, Hands-on coaching, High-risk, fast-paced environment
About the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS)
The Container Deposit Scheme is a statewide initiative that encourages people to return used drink containers for recycling. It’s a practical way to reduce litter, cut down on landfill, and keep valuable materials in use. The scheme supports cleaner communities, creates local jobs, and makes it easier for everyone to do their part for the environment.
About the role:
As a key safety advocate, you’ll champion health, safety, and process safety across our CDS sites – not from behind a desk, but out where it counts. This role is hands-on and mobile, with regular site visits and a strong presence in the field. You’ll build strong connections with frontline teams and leadership alike, driving continuous improvement through visibility, support, and action. Whether it’s joining toolbox talks, sitting in on Committee Meetings, or doing ride-alongs, you'll be known and trusted as someone who’s genuinely part of the team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Coaching and developing frontline leaders to build their HSE capability (includes delivery of engaging toolboxes, Risk Management, Incident Investigation, H&S Management system compliance)
- Supporting teams to assess risks, complete assurance audits and improve safety outcomes
- Guiding and coaching investigations (ICAM knowledge a bonus) to identify root cause and helping sites implement corrective actions
- Collaborate with key HSE team members and stakeholders to effectively partner to deliver key changes or requirements
- Embed a strong safety culture across site operations through the application of HSE Behaviours and the establishment of a learning culture.
- Keeping regular check-ins with sites to ensure ongoing engagement and improvement
About you:
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (WHS)
- Experience in HSE within heavy industry or high-risk operational environments
- Strong understanding of land transport safety – ideally with hands-on exposure
- Solid Understanding of permit-to-work systems
- Ability to influence and drive change through H&S initiatives and programs.
- Flexible and proactive – you’re ready to roll your sleeves up and get involved
- A team player who’s passionate about providing a service to the frontline
- Enthusiastic, self-driven and committed to creating safer workplaces
You’ll love this role if you:
- Like variety – no two days are the same
- Enjoy being part of a collaborative team, not working in isolation
- Want to be known on-site, not just on email
- Have the ability to travel frequently to CDS sites and connect with different teams
