Job Summary: The Assistant Coach aids in the development and overall strategy of the assigned sport. Analyzes and interprets data from the performance system to provide targeted programs to improve the performance of competitive athletes. Evaluates, recruits, instructs, supervises, disciplines, and coaches student-athletes to prepare them to compete successfully against major college competition.
Additional Department Summary: Provides instruction, training, and motivation to prepare student athletes for practices or competitive events. Evaluates student athletes’ strengths and weaknesses as possible recruits or to improve the current student athletes’ technique to prepare them for competition. Serves as mentor to student-athletes with academic and personal issues. Provides sport program management support to the head coach.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of coaching or playing experience at the collegiate level or above.
Skills and Knowledge: Ability to analyze, interpret, communicate, and adhere to University, SEC, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Ability to provide assistance to Head Coach in recruiting and training student athletes who participate in Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. Ability to recruit on a national level. Ability to instruct and motivate student-athletes on sport fundamentals, techniques. Ability to plan and conduct team and individual practice and training sessions as required. Ability to influence and build positive relationships among people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences including student-athletes, parents, coaches, media, faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.). Ability to foster a participative management style to successfully guide the work of others. Knowledge of Sprint and Hurdlers and Relays Ability to learn changing technology impacting sports.
Preferred Qualifications: USA Track & Field (USATF) Level 1 and 2 certified in Sprints and Hurdles
