Job Summary: The Blackburn Fellow Coordinator leads all efforts related to The Fellows Network that promotes active participation in Blackburn Institute events and serves to advance the mission of the Blackburn Institute, serving as an active mechanism to connect Fellows to each other, Blackburn students, and the Advisory Board. Works with Fellows in throughout Alabama with dedicated volunteers organizing activities in each of the 5 major cities (Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa) and other cities where there is a concentration of Fellows (Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; Washington, DC; New York, NY; etc.) to organize, promote, and host events and regularly attends these events as a representative of the Blackburn Institute and The University of Alabama. Establishes and strengthens alumni relationships with through direct contact and management of Blackburn Connect, an online networking and mentoring platform.

Through its work with students, Fellows, and Advisory Board members, the Institute develops a network of leaders who have a clear understanding of the state’s challenges. The Blackburn Institute is recognized as one of the most unique and dynamic leadership development programs in the country.
Blackburn Fellows are graduates from the University of Alabama (UA) have successfully completed the program and begin their work through professional and civic involvement in their home communities and throughout the state, both individually and through the Fellows Network. After 30 years in existence, there are nearly 1,000 Blackburn Fellows currently living in 40+ states across the nation. Supported by an Advisory Board of established leaders committed to the state of Alabama, the Blackburn Institute promotes change through an intergenerational network that learns from the past, takes action in the present, and plans for the future.
This position promotes intergenerational networking within the Blackburn Institute community serving as a liaison between Fellows and students, other Fellows, Advisory Board members, and Institute Staff. Provides for both Fellows programming and outreach and engagement. Oversees the development and implementation of communication/marketing plans for alumni and external stakeholders and directs the Institute's Annual Giving Campaign. Recruits, trains, and advises volunteers to include alumni leaders (Fellows Network Officers, Class Coordinators, Regional Coordinators, etc.), mentors, and presenters. Leads routine meetings of volunteers that focus on the programmatic aspects and logistics of alumni events, as well as individual and team development of alumni leaders. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all UA graduates.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, higher education or a related field, and five (5) years of professional leadership experience in a higher education setting or a related field; OR master's degree in business, communications, marketing, higher education or a related field, and three (3) years of professional leadership experience in a higher education setting. Experience with alumni engagement, relationship building, mentoring programs, and event planning. Experience developing sponsorships and partnerships, and fundraising. Experience with Blackburn Institute curriculum and Fellows network.
