Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evening/weekend hours for project support as needed


Job Summary: The Scientific Writer supports faculty members, researchers, and learners in producing scholarly articles, research papers, grant proposals, and educational resources. Drafts, writes, edits, and revises manuscripts, clinical study reports, abstracts, posters, presentations, and related scholarly materials for publication and dissemination. Prepares tables, figures, and illustrations and ensure all products meet scientific, academic, and ethical standards. Develops and edits grant proposals, applications, and supporting materials in collaboration with principal investigators and research teams.


Additional Department Summary: Provides writing, editing, and research support for assigned faculty members, researchers, and learners at the College of Community Health Sciences (CCHS). Develops content in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements. Conducts thorough research and analysis to support the development of accurate and compelling content. Communicates complex medical and scientific information in a clear and concise manner for various audiences including healthcare professionals, patients, and regulatory bodies.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in medical, scientific, or technical writing; OR master's degree and four (4) years of experience in medical, scientific, or technical writing.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong proficiency in scientific writing, editing, and proofreading. Demonstrated ability to convey complex medical information clearly and concisely though scientific writing. Knowledge of research methodology and evidence-based practice. Knowledge of regulatory and ethical guidelines in clinical research and publishing. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant computer-based tools (e.g., Adobe applications, web design tools). Proficiency with reference management software (e.g., EndNote, Zotero). Familiarity with academic publication standards and citation styles (e.g., APA, AMA). Excellent organization, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and other team members. Ability to work independently prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in English, communications, medical writing, public health, social/behavioral sciences, or other relevant field. Experience with qualitative and quantitative research analysis. Experience with large, extramural funded research projects. Experience in family medicine or primary care research. Familiarity with grant writing and research funding processes.
