Pepperdine University's Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the preventive injury program as well as the treatment and care of athletic injuries for all intercollegiate sports within the University. This role includes administrative responsibilities as well as all aspects related to providing comprehensive, evidence-based healthcare to Pepperdine University student-athletes. The individual will be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships within a Sports Medicine team including the campus Student Health Center, team physicians, physical therapists, other healthcare professionals, coaches, athletic administrators and the parents of student-athletes. This person is to be personally and professionally in harmony with the mission of Pepperdine University.

Duties

  • Provide student-athlete-centered medical care with a focus on health and safety. Responsibilities include evaluation, management, triage, treatment, referral, and follow-up for injuries and illnesses affecting NCAA Division I athletes. Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned teams on matters related to physical and mental health.
  • Refer injuries to appropriate medical professionals and administer treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by physicians. Design and implement individualized injury treatment and rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries. Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with medical personnel regarding the medical care and treatment of athletic related injuries and illnesses. Communicate with athletic administrators, head coaches and sports performance staff regarding the nature of athletic injuries and athletes' medical clearance for practice and competition.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in the daily management and supervision of the athletic training clinic and satellite training facilities.
  • Support the Director of Sports Medicine in planning and coordinating pre-participation physical exams (PPEs) for student-athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with the policies of Pepperdine University, the NCAA, and applicable league offices. Maintain ongoing continuing education and certification by the National Athletic Training Association.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Sports Medicine, assist in the coordination of the departments excess health insurance program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Represent Pepperdine University as the certified athletic trainer for assigned Pepperdine University athletic sanctioned events. Uphold the University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years experience working at the collegiate level.
  • Certified member in good standing of the National Athletic Training Association.
  • Capable of working both independently and as a team member; results oriented; self starter, proactive.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with external constituents.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal constituents, particularly senior staff, coaching staff, and other appropriate University staff.
  • Experience using database management systems and other common office computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheet, email and browser applications.

Preferred:

  • 2 years of experience at the college/university level as a certified athletic trainer.
  • Experience providing blood flow restriction therapy, myofascial decompression, and instrument-assisted soft-tissue treatment.
  • Athletic training experience with aquatic sports.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $68,640 - $69,138 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
