Job description:

As a Health & Safety Advisor you will assist in the development and implementation of PAHSMA strategic health and safety policy and procedure and technology platform development. You will also assist PAHSMA employees to understand compliance requirements and use of the Safety Management System, monitor and audit the workplace, records and investigate incidents to ensure safe and healthy working conditions. Key Focus Areas / Deliverables (Statement of Duties)

  • Provide WHS advice and support across PAHSMA sites.
  • Support business compliance with workplace inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Support the Health & Safety Manager in the development, implementation, and maintenance of new WHS technology platform and broader WHS system.
  • Deliver WHS system training and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Oversee business compliance, documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Undertake mandatory training and be responsible for administration and management of injury management, including workers compensation.
  • Other duties as required and directed from time to time.

Capabilities & Attributes (Selection Criteria)

  • Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice on Work Health and Safety legislative compliance, including interpretation and application of relevant standards, legislation, and Codes of Practice.
  • Proven experience in leading the development and implementation of WHS improvement initiatives and strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capability in designing, implementing, and maintaining WHS systems and strategies, including policies, procedures, guidance materials, and learning programs.
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory training and administer and manage workers’ compensation claims and injury case management, including return-to-work programs and non-compensation injury management.

High-level resilience and skills in liaison, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration, with the ability to clearly and accurately convey complex technical information to diverse audiences. Solid written communication skills. Demonstrated high professional standards, including conceptual and analytical reasoning, initiative, flexibility, creativity, and a strong customer service focus. Proven ability to deliver timely, high-quality outcomes while maintaining confidentiality and trust.

Essential Requirements

  • Working with Vulnerable People registration, or ability to obtain this (without restrictions).
  • Workplace Provide First Aid & CPR Certificate, or ability and willingness to obtain this.

Desirable Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and ability to foster a strong safety culture.
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
  • Experience working within the public sector, particularly in heritage-based organisations, with an understanding of their unique compliance requirements and how to integrate WHS treatments and compliance requirements in an innovative and contemporary manner.
  • Willingness to work across multiple sites in Southern Tasmania.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 frameworks and WHS regulatory obligations.
  • Willingness to upskill in Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation, obtaining the desired units of competency.
