Position Summary

Salary -  $21.52 - 23.91 hourly upon meeting the progression step requreiments.  MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time.  Not eligible to work a partial remote schedule.
 
This position will assist in and perform responsibilities involved in determining suppliers; processing orders; receiving, issuing, storing, and maintaining inventory; and maintaining records on parts and equipment used by skilled trades and related employees; to assist in researching and recommending the purchase of new or improved equipment; and to perform routine maintenance and repair of tool and equipment inventory. Provide information and service to resolve material, tool and equipment needs. Maintain technical reference materials and research sources of new, out of date, and specialized materials, tools and equipment. Contact vendors and MSU stores operations to obtain price, availability, and technical information about materials, tools and equipment. Place, expedite, and pick up stock orders, open orders, open order contract orders, and special orders with vendors and MSU stores operations as needed. Determine and recommend appropriate par stock levels for commonly used items. Maintain computer records of orders, back orders, delivered materials, and related information necessary in the operation of a materials and logistics supply area. Check incoming shipments for appropriate items, quantities, and damage; notify vendor and resolve problems; process material returns; and maintain and update related records. Resolve billing price, purchase order, quantity, delivery, damage, record keeping, and related problems with the Unit’s business office. Receive, check and move incoming and outgoing materials, tools, supplies and related stock. Operate mechanical and hydraulic lifts, forklifts, motor vehicles and related materials moving equipment. Stock, order, issue lifts maintain records on tools and equipment. Stock, order, issue and maintain records on tools and equipment. Perform and/or schedule maintenance, repairs and calibration of tools, equipment and safety devices. Provide training in the use of tools, equipment, safety devices, etc. Maintain MSDS and related documentation files. Undergo confined space, asbestos abatement and other training as directed in order to maintain and increase knowledge, and to meet legal and regulative requirements for the performance of assigned job functions. Provides customer service to MSU Community and the public. Responds or informs supervisory staff of complaints, comments and/or unmet service needs. Prepare and assist in the preparation of service work orders. Train and assign work to and check work of assigned support employees. Participate in cleaning, maintenance and related activities in Physical Plant and related areas.
 
Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • One-year satisfactory experience as a Laborer III or equivalent in a trades related materials logistics operation and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification.
  • Working knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment, electric and electronic components, vendors, supplier reference materials, repair and maintenance activities, and related materials in a skilled trades’ logistics operation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Possession of an MSU fork lift operator’s license.
  • Frequent lifting of 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
  • Must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification.

Desired Qualifications

Three to five years experience working in a maintenance, repair, and operation inventory warehouse receiving operation. Three to five years experience operating a class VII rough terrain forklift truck and a variety of class III material handling equipment. Three to five years experience driving a motor vehicle with GVWR between 10,001 to 26,000lbs. One to three years experience operating 15,000lb rough terrain telescopic telehandler. Possession of aerial and scissor lift certification.
 

This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
