Summary: The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance seeks a tenure track faculty full time, 9-month, specializing in voice performance and instruction. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, and from candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations. Opportunity to collaborate with other faculty on curriculum development and creative projects. This position will start August 6, 2024.
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Doctorate in vocal performance. ABD candidate will be considered for a two-year contract with provision that the Doctorate must be completed by December 2025.
- Potential for successful college-level teaching and research.
- Demonstrated professional excellence in vocal performance in solo and/or chamber settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect, empathy, and cultural humility.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. This could include experience using inclusive teaching practices; research relating to minoritized populations or social inequality; community-based outreach to minoritized and underserved communities; and other forms of DEI-infused teaching, scholarship, and/or service.
- Mezzo, Tenor, Baritone, or Bass voice type preferred, but all voice types considered.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit vocal students for an undergraduate program.
- Successful experience in college-level teaching and research.
Responsibilities: Duties each semester include a 9-credit hour teaching load, baseline scholarship and service, and a significant focus (equivalent to 3 credit hours) of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and/or service depending on the candidate's interests and the department’s needs. The ideal candidate will teach applied voice and voice-related courses, which may include diction, vocal pedagogy, or vocal literature. Candidates will work to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality students and engage in meaningful creative and professional activity. The teaching assignment will be dependent upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and interests and the needs of the Music Department.

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance provides an intensive performing arts education within a liberal education. Our five degree programs are offered by 37 full-time faculty with over 150 performances by faculty, guest artists, and students each year.
