  • Salary Package – LHI Officer Grade 8 - $136,027 to $148,515 plus 11.5% superannuation
  • Ongoing full-time role (38 hours per week) opportunity

About the role

Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Officer to maintain, operate and regulate the Lord Howe Island hybrid powerhouse plant and equipment in accordance with Lord Howe Board and government regulations.

 

About You

 

To be successful in the role, you will need to have experience in operating with significant autonomy to ensure a consistent and reliable electrical supply, including making decisions on daily issues such as plant repairs and routine upgrades to maintain power infrastructure. In addition, you should be able to make rapid decisions to address power supply disturbances, ensuring prompt restoration of power, especially to critical infrastructure such as the hospital and airport, to safeguard community well-being.

  • Electrical Trades Certificate (Supervisors Certificate)
  • UEPOPS022        Coordinate and direct switching program
  • UEPOPS036        Develop HV switching programs 
  • UEPOPS116        Operate local HV switchgear
  • UEPOPS124        Perform switching to a switching program
  • UETDRSB001      Perform substation switching operations to a given schedule 
  • Class C Driver’s license

  • UEPOPS021 Control permit to work
  • UEPOPS117 Operate local LV switchgear
  • UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical equipment
  • UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
  • UETDRMP002 ESI safety rules for work on, near or in the vicinity of electrical equipment
  • UETDRRF004 Perform rescue from a live LV panel 
  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Who we are

 

Lord Howe Island is located in the Tasman Sea approximately 700km north east of Sydney and is part of NSW. The Island has a high proportion of rare and endemic birds, plants, and invertebrates, and has the southernmost coral reef in the world. Three-quarters of the Island is within the Permanent Park Preserve, which is managed similarly to a national park. There are approximately 445 residents and tourism is the major industry and source of income on the Island. Approximately 16,000 people visit the Island each year and there are 21 accommodation lodges.

 

The Lord Howe Island Board (the Board) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Lord Howe Island Act 1953. The Board is responsible to the NSW Minister for the Environment and comprises four Islanders elected by the local community and three members appointed by the Minister. It is charged with the care, control and management of the Island and the affairs and trade of the Island. It is also responsible for the care, improvement and welfare of the Island and residents. “Island” as defined by the Act includes Lord Howe Island and all adjacent islands and coral reefs within one marine league of the Island. Ball’s Pyramid and adjacent islands are also included in this definition.

Lord Howe Island Board members and staff are employed under section 21 of the Government Sector Employment and Management Act 2013, by DCCEEW.
